Dear Readers,
I am a first year Ph.D. student in the Biology program at Northern Arizona University, where I am part of a smaller group at the university called Ecoss. Ecoss stands for the Center of Ecosystem Science and Society. The research and skill-sets of this group are diverse, however, we are united by the mission of understanding how ecosystems will shape and respond to climate change. As a part of Ecoss, I aspire to contribute to the scientific discoveries that will further shape our understanding of ecosystems response to climate change. Furthermore, I aim to communicate these discoveries across diverse communities with the goal of bridging local solutions to scientific solutions. As I progress through my Ph.D. program, I am eager to find ways to engage my community in science and learn alongside them in fun and interesting ways.
With that being said, this platform is going to be a way for me to share my interests, discoveries, and research as it relates to ecosystem ecology and earth system science. Through this, I will find ways to engage my interests with my community. This newsletter is written with the goal of being educational. I intend on tailoring the subjects that are covered following feedback from the newsletter community. Eventually, I see this newsletter extending into a platform that can be used for the community to engage in citizen science. Whether that means spending one day out of the week posting your ecosystem observations or talking about how your ecosystem has been responding to climate change through a discussion board. Either way – community feedback and discussion will be an important aspect of this newsletter! Thanks for chiming in!
Best Regards,
Darby Bergl
